Alex Grayson here. Thanks for visiting my website.
Since 2022, I've been assistant coach, alongside head coach Joe Raho, for men’s and women’s squash at Tufts University.
I grew up in Titirangi, Aotearoa New Zealand and represented my country at junior and senior level. I moved to the greater Boston area in 2013 to coach at clubs and high schools while I played the PSA tour, as well as the PST.
I competed on the PSA tour from 2007 to 2012, taking a hiatus from PSA in 2013 to play the American based PST, returning to PSA from 2014 to 2018.
My years on the pro tour brought some lessons about injury. It certainly didn't help my playing career, limiting my growth to patches of tournaments in between injuries. I managed to earn a world ranking of 142 at the age of 20, but wasn't able to kick on after knee and achilles injuries continued to disrupt my progress.
Those recoveries, along with thousands of hours of coaching players of all ages, taught me a great deal about the balance of physical and mental training.
As a result, I created a holistic method of coaching to help organize and clarify healthy squash training.
These days I like to approach the journey of each squash player with an appreciation of our wellbeing, both as player and coach.
Learning about your needs as a squash player allows me to pay attention to specific areas of practice, which can help facilitate sustainable growth as a player and as a person.
I've been running Squash Journey since 2018, and it's always fun to see and hear from fellow squash players; supporters; and family from around the world. My base is the lovely 8 court facility at Tufts University.
As cliche as it sounds, I really do hope I can help you on your own personal squash journey, because you deserve to enjoy this sport for as long as possible :)
Please feel free to leave me a message below if you'd like to know more about my journey, or if you'd like to learn more about lessons, mindfulness sessions, and clinics. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, or take feedback about the website as I continue to update it. Thanks for stopping by. See you at the courts!
